What is a Right to Know (RTK) Request? A Right to Know request allows people to ask government or public organizations, like a school district, to share information or documents they have. It’s a way to access records about decisions, spending, or actions that affect the public.
For example:
- If you want to know how much the district is spending on new technology or security upgrades, you can submit a Right to Know request to find out.
- If you’re curious about staff salaries or administrative bonuses, a Right to Know request can give you access to that information.
- If there’s a concern about contracts awarded to vendors, you can request copies of contracts or bid information to understand why certain companies were chosen.
The organization must respond by either providing the information or explaining why they can’t. This process helps ensure transparency and lets the community see how decisions impact them.
How To Submit a Right to Know (RTK) Request?
Anyone can write a Right to Know request using the official RTK form found here. You can also suggest a Right to Know request that you would like us to submit on your behalf. To do so, please provide as much detail as possible, including relevant dates if applicable. We will review your suggestion and may reach out with follow-up questions. There will be a $25 fee for each RTK request we submit, and all information sent and received in response to the RTK will be posted on this page. Before we submit the request, you will receive an email with instructions on how to send your $25 donation.
This page is specifically for Right to Know requests related to the Souderton School District; we do not submit requests for other government entities. If you have previously submitted a Right to Know request and would like to have it included here, please click here.
Relevant information, including letters to the editor and direct communications between community members and the board, may also be shared.
